Google Android Gets Flash and AIR Support

If you have not been paying attention to news, then this latest update may seem to be something that is totally out of the blue. The truth of the matter however, is that this has been coming since the past couple of weeks after Apple declared that the developers may no longer use Adobe’s software to create applicators for the new iPhone operating system.

The lockout has delivered a critical blow to Adobe who was just hours away from unveiling the new Adobe Flash Professional CS5 which featured an iPhone app compiler as one of the key features.

In any case, Apple’s efforts to make Adobe feel unwelcome were pretty obvious and Adobe has decided to thrown in the towel. Adobe product manager Mike Chambers has announced in his blog that Apple is not the only company they can develop for –obviously, he was referring to Google.

Now, Google and Adobe have tied up and one of their first announcements was that the Android OS will now come equipped with support for both the latest Flash and AIR support. Of course, Google is excited about the tie up as well. To quote Google VP Andy Rubin:

“Google believes that developers should have their choice of tools and technologies to create applications. By supporting Adobe AIR on Android we hope that millions of creative designers and developers will be able to express themselves more freely when they create applications for Android devices. More broadly, AIR will foster rapid and continuous innovation across the mobile ecosystem.”

“Google is happy to be partnering with Adobe to bring the full web, great applications, and developer choice to the Android platform. Our engineering teams have been working closely to bring both AIR and Flash Player to Google’s mobile operating system and devices. The Android platform is enjoying great adoption, and we expect our work with Adobe will help that growth continue.”

Is it not ironic that this team up was made possible by Apple? The latest Android smartphone deals can be found by visiting Moby1, who have all the latest Motorola Quench deals and HTC Legend offers.
